Happy Birthday James!

James… Jamie…Jimmy…Whitlock…Daddy… Babe… so many names for one amazing man! So, who is this great guy? The first time you are introduced to him, he will probably hug you, he’s a hugger.  I’ve been told by many people that he gives the best hugs… even better than their own spouse’s. He’s the dreamer of the family.  Big ideas and plans are what he is best at.  In a pinch, need some assistance?  He will have no problem dropping what he is doing to help.  Need to go to the airport, he’ll do it!  You are moving? Guess what, he’s got a truck and will work for pizza!  Having a bad day?  He is the person to call, and will come up with a least a dozen solutions to make it better. Thinking about a new hobby? He will dive into Google and find a million ways to explore it, and then probably want to go with you.  Some one treat you poorly or make you feel bad?  He is the fiercely loyal ally you want you want in your corner.  Is there a St. Jude Hospital commercial running?  He’s choking up.  Half tough guy, half teddy bear. This joy, passion and love of life is brought to every person James meets.  Why should you care?  Because he is the guy you want on your team.  I’m pretty damn lucky he’s on mine.

A few years back, I started to wonder how to celebrate his 40th birthday.  James declared he did not want a party.  Ok, no party.  What about a big trip???  Yes!.. oh wait, we have three small children… that is not going to work.  How about a suite at an L.A. Kings hockey game?  Could work… but, felt too predictable.  Quick trip to Vegas? He loves Vegas.  But, I already did that three years ago, and then we would be without some friends and family.  I need a lot of little things… so I have put together James’ 40 Days to 40.

We are going to commemorate 40 with a series of mini-celebrations. January 24 until March 3 (forty days,) we will be celebrating in some fashion EVERY DAY.  You read that right… we are going to celebrate his birthday every day for forty days.  One day could a small trinket, a favorite treat, or an experience  with a friend, family member, or yours truly.  This blog will be a written history of each day and what it entails.

A  note to my husband, who I am forcing to read this: Today is the first day that we begin to celebrate everything that makes you so amazing.  You may believe that turning 40 is not a big deal… but I am making it a big deal… so get ready.  Each day will be a surprise! So, please no snooping around the house, on phones or emails (as much as it kills you to not snoop.)  Sit back, and give us all a chance to make sure  you know how much we love you. Also… I know that you love little surprises, but HATE being surprised, it will be worth, I promise.  Do me a small favor, and just roll with it.
